Woma Python

Woma-python

Description:

Scientific name: Aspidites ramsayi

Life span: Around 15 years

A. ramsayi adults typically measure 1.5 m (4.5 feet) in length overall (including tail). The eyes are small, and the head is slender. The tail tapers to a thin point, while the body is broad and flattish in profile. Small and smooth, the dorsal scales have 50–65 rows in the midbody. The dorsal hue can range from light brown to almost black. A ground hue that can range from medium brown and olive to pale orange, pink, and red is layered with darker stripes or brindled marks to create the pattern. With brown and pink markings, the belly is cream or light yellow in color.

Native Region/Habitat

Aspidites ramsayi is found in the western and central regions of Australia, from Western Australia to the southern and northern regions of South Australia and the Northern Territory to the southern and western regions of Queensland.

Behavior:

They are often amiable and easy to take care of. Aspidites ramsayi spend much of its time at night. This snake hides during the daytime under leaves or in hollow logs. When moving across scorching sands or other surfaces, it lifts its body off the ground, reaches far ahead, and then pushes off the ground once more, only having a few inches of its body in contact with the ground at a time.

Care As a pet/In captivity:

Although it is regarded to be more active than many pythons and is also a very placid and “easy to manage” snake, the wooma is highly prized in the reptile and exotic pet trade. It frequently accepts prey and other items with enthusiasm and is one of the toughest python species kept in captivity.

  • Babies of woma pythons can begin their lives in aquariums as small as 10 to 15 gallons. You can expand the enclosure’s size once the animal is about a year old. Glass aquariums, snake racks, and any of the commercially available, plastic-type reptile enclosures are just a few examples of the types that are suitable for woomas.
  • At 87–90 degrees, the hot side basking area should be. A hide there and a hide on the cool side should be placed. 75 to 80 degrees can be considered the cool side. The ambient temperature can fall as low as 72 degrees at night. A basking light and an under-tank heat pad are both wise additions. Typically, a hide is placed over the heat pads, which are situated on the hot side.
  • You should constantly make sure your wooma python has access to clean water; therefore keep a non-porous water bowl nearby. Exo Terras or Flukers water bowls make excellent decorative options, as do ceramic crock dishes. To prevent bacteria slime from accumulating, scrub the bowl at least once a week. Your snake will be able to shed correctly if you maintain an environment with a humidity level of roughly 50%.
  • Make sure to offer mostly lean meat, such as young ducks, chicks, and small rabbits. Sometimes mice or rats.
