White Shorthaired Goat

White Shorthaired Goat

Description:

A medium-sized mammal, the White Shorthaired Goat is a goat. It looks like a cross between a goat and a Saanen. This goat has the usual features of milk goats, including strong but fine-boned bones, a deep, long body, and long legs.

They have short hair without any coloring and are completely white. Certain strains continue to have the distinctive Saanen’s black patches on the nose, eyelids, udders, and even the belly.

Behavior:

Like Saanen goats, the White Shorthaired Goat has a peaceful and kind attitude. They behave well and are often friendly.

Benefits/Uses:

One of the top dairy goat breeds for milk production is the white shorthaired goat. The breed is mostly used to produce milk. It is also appropriate for industrial dairy goat husbandry.

Origin/History:

Domestic goats of the White Shorthaired breed originate in the Czech Republic. It is a breed of dairy goat that is primarily raised for milk production. Selective breeding of native Czech landrace goats mated with Saanen goats from Switzerland produced the White Shorthaired Goat.

The early 1900s landrace that was enhanced by crossing with Saanens was not consistent in color, primarily ranging from light-brown to white. Since its classification as a distinct goat breed in 1954–1955, the White Shorthaired Goat has spread throughout the Czech Republic.

Another name for the breed is Bilà Kratkosrsta Koza. There are around 35,000 members of this breed worldwide, with 97% of them living in smallholdings.
