Wetterhoun

wetterhoun

The Wettherhoun is a canine breed that was developed to hunt otters and is excellent as a watchdog and family pet. They are energetic and independent, excel in many dog activities, and are still in high demand due to their versatility as both retrievers and gun dogs. They enjoy spending time with their families and are recognized for having coarse, curly coats and independent, active dispositions.

Care as a Pet/ In Captivity

Wetterhouns are not very challenging to care for, but they do need some training and activity, which can make them the incorrect choice for some households—particularly those with limited free time. Wetterhouns are thought to be a little reticent and have innate protecting skills. As a result, they are typically not seen as an aggressive breed, making them a wonderful choice for households with other pets and for families.

Exercise

The Wetterhoun, like most breeds, needs daily exercise for both their physical and mental health. You should aim for roughly 30 minutes of movement every day for these hunting breed dogs, in addition to plenty of outdoor play. As water dogs, they will gladly swim in a lake or pool and are sure to like just about any activity involving water.

Grooming

Wetterhouns have a thick, coarse, curly coat that covers their entire body, with the exception of their legs and head, where it is a little shorter. Since it is naturally oily and so partly waterproof, they won’t need to be groomed extensively or frequently.

Nutrition and Diet

The Wetterhoun should thrive on any premium diet, whether it is prepared commercially or at home (with your veterinarian’s clearance). The Wetterhoun is a hunting breed with lots of energy, so to make sure their nutritional needs are satisfied, you might want to choose a dog food that’s made for active dogs.
