Characteristics and Genetics
The largest of the four breeds that make up the Welsh Pony and Cob family is the Welsh Cob, or Welsh Section D.
The Cob (Section D), like other Welsh ponies, is bright, lively, and willing. It is a good driving, trekking, and jumping pony. The Section D Cob may be ridden by both adults and children because it is the tallest of the four Welsh horses.
Nutrition and Diet As Pet
These ponies can survive on less food than owners might believe because they originated in harsh environments. Especially for new pony owners, overfeeding is usually a bigger issue than underfeeding. While other fodders, such as clover, can be excessively rich, high-quality grass hay is suitable. Furthermore, a pasture with less grass is ideal because a pony’s health may suffer from overgrazing in a rich pasture. Except for those with a high level of activity or a health condition, the majority of ponies don’t require concentrates or grains.
