Characteristics and Genetics
Waguli cattle are a breed of cattle raised for beef. The Waguli was developed at the University of Arizona at the V-V Ranch, west of Campe Verde, Arizona. The breed resulted from a cross between the Wagyu and the Tuli breed of Zimbabwean Sanga. The Waguli was developed in an effort to create a breed that could tolerate high temperatures and provide high-quality meat, much as how the Santa Gertrudis and Brangus were developed. Ranchers that raise beef have created hybrid crosses like the Santa Gertrudis because of the Brahman breed’s high heat tolerance and typical low-quality carcass characteristics.
