Description:

Medium-sized, stocky, and muscular, they have strong legs for climbing and trekking long distances. The head and neck are short, and the forehead and muzzle are broad. Horns are long and gracefully curled, and ears are upright. Both sexes have tufts on their foreheads, long, curly hair, and beards.

Valais-Blackneck Goat

Behavior:

They are fierce and agile inside the herd yet wary and timid with outsiders. In the Belalp mountains in Valais, a young Valais Blackneck.

Benefits/Uses: 

Formerly a pastoral animal with two uses for small farmers, producing milk, meat, and pelts. Does are primarily bred to suckle young for meat production, despite the fact that milk output is good.

Origin/History:

The breed originates from the Valais canton in southern Switzerland and the surrounding regions of northern Italy. The Visp (Viège) region has the greatest availability of Valais Blackneck goats.
