Origin and History

A small breed of native Russian cats known as the Ural Rex Longhair. In the first half of the 20th century, rex first made an appearance. Then, villages and towns in the Ural region were populated with cats with curly hair. The Vaska cat is regarded as the breed’s ancestor. He was born in 1988 in the Sverdlovsk region’s Zarechny city.

The Ural Rexes had a sharp fall in number during the Great Patriotic War. The breed was believed to have vanished. It was still being worked on in Yekaterinburg. Olga Mironova, a Russian felinologist, published the first description of curly-haired Ural cats in 1991.

For a thorough investigation, a number of the breed’s representatives were brought to Moscow in 1997. Additionally, the Ural Rex was formally registered in 1999. The breed standard was accepted by the World Cat Federation (WCF) in 2006. Unfortunately, the Ural Rex is only well-known in its own country and is regarded as a rare breed. There are also known little catteries in Dresden and Dortmund, Germany.

Behavior

Activity Level: High

Social Needs: They don’t like to be left alone and would welcome the company of another canine companion at home.

The Ural Rex has an unusually pleasant temperament. They are quite lively and gentle, trusting if not naive, and friendly to other pets and family members. They are patient and never aggressive, whether at home or at a cat exhibition. They only need human attention because they are fairly frail. It has strong hunting instincts and is generally silent.

Grooming

The coat should be combed out twice a week with a gentle brush to keep it smooth and orderly. Owners have noticed a small propensity to molt. However, it is preferable to trim the animal during these times. The frequency of water treatments shouldn’t exceed a few times per three to four months. Otherwise, follow the regular sanitary advice. Every 7 to 10 days, it is advised to brush your ears, eyes, and trim your claws.

Diet and Nutrition

The cuisine chosen by Ural Rex Longhair is pretty unpretentious. They are also not prone to putting on too much weight. Regular and balanced feedings are recommended. For medium cat breeds, both a natural food diet and premium food are ideal. Do not forget to provide the required vitamin supplements if you pick natural foods. You can maintain your pet’s health and regular bone development in this method.
