Translucent Breaded Dragon

Translucent Bearded Dragon

Description:

Scientific name: Pogona vitticeps sp.

Life span: 10 – 15 years

These beardies are distinguished by their dark eyes, which lack an iris, and by the common blue eyelids of many Translucent Beardies. They frequently have lighter hues than many other Bearded Dragon color morphs because of their translucent-looking scales and spikes.

Frequently, the bellies of young Translucent Bearded Dragons are blue. This is as a result of their bodies being covered with translucent scales. This blue hue on the abdomen diminishes with maturity.

Native Region/Habitat

The inland or central bearded dragon, also known as the beardie, is the species that is widely known as the bearded dragon and is widespread throughout central Australia. They can be found in arid and subtropical woods, scrublands, savannas, coastline areas, and even large interior deserts.

Behavior:

Translucent Beardies are gregarious reptiles, thus they frequently feel at ease when touched. But, it takes time to establish trust, so be ready to start out cautiously by giving your Beardie some time to grow acquainted with you. Before you try to start lifting them up, make sure they are at ease with your hands being close by.

Habitat, Tank Conditions & Setup:

Tank: The minimal minimum tank size needed for translucent bearded dragons is 4 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet. Although juveniles can have a smaller container, they will outgrow it very rapidly. 20 gallons are often advised for infants, 40 gallons for children, 50 to 75 gallons for small adults, and 75 to 125 gallons for large individuals.

Lighting:

You must keep your translucent bearded dragon in a space with consistent day and night illumination cycles. A room with natural light that isn’t in the sun’s direct rays is a nice choice. Also, they need 12 hours of UVB light per day in the tank.

Heating (Temperature & Humidity): A daytime temperature of 75–85°F and a nocturnal temperature of 70–75°F are required for translucent bearded dragons. To help keep your Beardie’s body temperature stable, the basking area should be kept between 88 and 100 F. The ideal humidity range is between 20 and 40%. Improper humidity levels might cause respiratory infections and shedding issues.

Feeding: Because they are primarily herbivorous as adults, Translucent Bearded Dragons should be fed a lot of vegetables every day. They are allowed to eat some fruits and be given gut-loaded insects a few times per week. It is advised to take calcium supplements and a multivitamin for reptiles.
