Origin/History:

The dairy goat breed known as the Thuringian goat originated in Thüringen in central Germany. The Toggenburg, Rhönziege, Harzerziege, and Thüringer Landziege goat breeds were crossed intentionally to create it.

Swiss Toggenburg, Harzerziege, and Rhönziege were first used in the early 1900s, and Swiss Toggenburg was used once more in 1988. The German Improved Fawn goat breed includes the Thuringian goat. It was created sometime about 1885. The breed is now extremely rare and well-adapted to mountainous areas (almost extinct).  Keeping as pet:

  • Food

Breeders favour this breed because of its exceptional vigour, which is one of the reasons why. So extensive feeding in open spaces uses such vigour. They have even used it to clean an area with harsh grasses since it is so effective.

Thuringian Due to their great level of resistance, goats do not require a lot of food. For this reason, breeders feed it in pastures with intensive feeding. because they are able to eat and thrive on meager and sparse pastures. This breed is referred to as “the goats that run out of forage” for this reason. Since Thuringian goats are mostly dairy goats, they require supplements as well as fresh, high-quality forage.
