Temperament
Typically, juvenile and subadult Threadfin Acaras are tranquil. Adult animals’ behavior, however, can be quite erratic, with some displaying overt aggressiveness towards conspecifics.
Habitat
It is the sole species in the genus Acarichthys and is a native of the rivers of tropical South America’s Amazon and Essequibo basins. It has since spread to southeast Asia.
Keeping as Pet
- Tank Size
For a pair, a tank with a base footprint of 150 cm × 45 cm is just about acceptable; however, a group would require a tank that is substantially larger.
- Water Parameters
Temperature: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius, particularly in the higher half of this range.
pH: 6.0 – 8.0
Hardness: 18 to 215 ppm
- Feeding
This species spends a lot of its time in midwater rather than sifting sand like some related species do. Most meals are acceptable, but for it to develop in the optimum condition and color, a diversified diet is necessary. Provide a variety of fresh, frozen, and dried foods, and make sure to include some vegetables, like steamed spinach or a brand-name Spirulina supplement.
- Tank mates
Red Shoulder Severum
Electric Blue Acara
Turquoise Severum
