Taiwan Dog

Taiwan

The medium-sized Taiwanese non-sporting dog breed has a short, smooth coat that can be any number of colors. This unusual canine breed, also referred to as the Formosan mountain dog, features a triangular head with almond-shaped eyes and narrow prick ears. The dog frequently has black marks on its tongue. The breed is lanky, strong, and has a sickle-shaped tail that is carried erectly. It is a powerful athlete and would do well in an active family because it is descended from ancient hunting dogs.

Care as a Pet/ In Captivity

This energetic breed will require daily exercise for a significant amount of time. Fortunately, maintaining it just takes a short amount of time. In order to develop appropriate manners, it should also undergo constant training and socializing from a young age.

Exercise

Your Taiwanese dog should get at least one to two hours of exercise every day. The best activities include strenuous games of fetch as well as long walks, treks, jogs, and swimming. In canine sports like agility, which have both mental and physical obstacles, this breed can also succeed. Toy puzzles can also keep this intelligent breed entertained. When outside, keep your dog on a leash or in a securely gated area. If you don’t, your dog can go off after what it thinks is prey due to the breed’s predation drive. If the breed is not properly socialized and trained, it may potentially become violent toward dogs and strangers.

Grooming

Brush your dog as least once every week to distribute skin oils and remove loose fur. However, you should prepare for periods of increased shedding twice a year, typically in the spring and fall, when you’ll need to brush more regularly.

Give your dog a bath about once a month, and check on its ears at least once a week to determine if they need to be cleaned. Additionally, it should preferably brush its teeth every day and trim its nails about once a month.

Nutrition and Diet

Maintain constant availability to clean water for your Taiwanese dog. Feed it twice a day, on average, a high-quality canine diet that contains balanced nutrition. To make sure you’re addressing your dog’s specific needs, talk to your vet about the type of food you should be giving him/her as well as the amount. A person’s nutritional needs can change depending on their age, degree of activity, and other factors. To aid in preventing excessive weight gain, refrain from overindulging in snacks and other additional foods.
