Tail-Spot Blenny

Tail-sport blenny

Size

A maximum adult length of about 2.5 inches is possible.

Physical characteristics and behavior

A tail-sport blenny’s head can be either gray or blue, and its body can range from grey to brown-orange. A yellow line that runs from the lower lid to the upper cheek corresponds to the color of the iris, which is yellow. The most accurate technique to distinguish between several species that resemble this one is the black spot at the base of the caudal fin.

  • Tank Parameters

Blennies are particularly well-liked in nano aquariums or tanks smaller than 40 gallons (151.4 L). Typically, all they require is a properly set-up 10-gallon aquarium (37.9 L). Blennies are lively fish who prefer to hang around in the aquarium’s front area. But blennies typically spend the majority of their time outside the burrows they dig, unlike other bottom-dwellers. They still like mature live rock with sufficient algal accumulation for hiding and normally appreciate a sand substrate to burrow into while keeping their underbellies secure, but it’s not fully necessary if their nutritional needs are being satisfied elsewhere.

These blennies consume a lot of vegetables and mostly rely on the rockwork’s microflora and fauna, including algae. It is best to introduce them to an aquarium with a lot of vegetable matter, but if the tank hasn’t had time to produce much algae, you might need to add supplements or algae wafers to make sure they have everything they need. In any case, they can withstand higher water flow, which qualifies them for more sophisticated small polyp stony (SPS) coral reef systems. Also, keep in mind that these fish have a propensity to jump, so we strongly advise purchasing a fish tank with a tight-fitting top.

  • Diet

It is well known that the tail spot blenny consumes a lot of algae. They will be content if you put them in an aquarium that already has a good amount of algae growth. Provide a lot of vegetable matter to your Blenny. Included in this are dried seaweed, algae flakes, and algae wafers made especially for marine fish.

  • Water Conditions

10 gallons or more of habitat minimum area is needed, depending on the species; 1.020 to 1.025 specific gravity; 74 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit for the water.
