Characteristics and Genetics

A sizable domestic pig breed called Swabian-Hall Swine was developed in Schwäbisch Hall, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The name Schwäbisch-Hällisches Schwein is another name for it.

King George III, who brought Meishan pigs from Japan to Europe in 1820 to breed with German Landrace pigs, started it. Increasing the fat content was the key motivation for this.

A extremely resilient breed of pig is the Swabian-Hall pig. It often has a long lifespan. The sows are extremely fertile, with average litter sizes of over nine piglets.

The Swabian-Hall sows make enough milk for their piglets and are great mothers.
