Suphalak

suphalak.

Description

Size: 8-15 pounds

The Suphalak is a short-haired cat breed with a consistent reddish-brown copper colour that was developed in Thailand. The Suphalak should have a warm, rich coat that is uniformly colored throughout. The ideal coat colour would be more red-brown than black-brown and would not have tabby markings. This hue is known as “thong daeng” or “the colour of copper” by the Tamra Maew. Today’s breeders in Thailand frequently relate the coat colour to the tamarind fruit pulp, a staple of Thai cuisine.

The general shape of the body and the shape of the head should resemble domestic cats seen in Thailand. The body type is semi-foreign, medium in size, and muscular. A modified wedge with a medium width and a moderate length is how the head type is described. There shouldn’t be any extremes in either the body type or the head type.

Origin and History

The Suphalak is first described and illustrated in a group of antiquated books known as the Tamra Maew (the Cat-Book Poems), which is considered to have been written during the Ayutthaya Kingdom (AD 1351 to 1767). Some have resurfaced outside of Thailand and are now housed in the British Library and National Library of Australia, while more than a dozen are currently held in the National Library of Thailand. The Tamra Maew not only characterizes the Suphalak but also other heritage cats of Thailand, such as the Wichien Maat (a seal point Siamese with pale blue eyes) and the Korat, which are still bred in Thailand for preservation and have gained popularity abroad. Originated over three centuries ago in Thailand.

Behavior

Activity Level: High

Social Needs: In general, these cats seem to need a lot of care.

The Suphalak is a cat breed with a strong focus on people, much like other cat varieties from Thailand. They frequently exhibit more canine-like traits and personalities and are intelligent, loving, and energetic. They are talkative, lively, and playful and dislike being ignored or left alone.

Grooming

Suphalaks have a short coat that doesn’t need a lot of maintenance. On the other hand, grooming your cat twice a week will guarantee that their coat is always glossy and silky.

You should also make sure that your Suphalak’s nails are kept short. They can accidentally hurt their surrounds with their claws because they are so active and if they aren’t kept in check.

Diet and Nutrition

Suphalaks’ owners do not need to provide for any special dietary requirements that may arise. But it’s imperative that you give them top-quality food that contains the high levels of protein that Suphalaks require as cats.

Suphalaks may need more food than the ordinary cat in addition to a high-protein diet. They will require a suitable amount of food to support their level of activity given how active they are.

Combining wet and dry food will guarantee that your cat has enough hydration in their diet to support their high levels of activity. Since cats frequently fail to drink enough water on their own, adding moisture to their diet via food is essential to maintaining renal function.

Exercise

Supalaks need to be active all the time to be happy. They are energetic cats that require a place to vent their energy. In order to prevent your Suphalak from being bored, you’ll need to provide them plenty of room to run around, toys, and playing.
