Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo

Sulphur- crested cockatoo.

Description

Life span: 65+ years

One of the largest of the various species of stunning white cockatoos is the sulphur-crested cockatoo. Most of the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos’ bodies are white, and their beaks are black. They have a gorgeous golden feather crest on top of their heads. Its wings’ undersides are washed with yellow.

Even though they both seem to be identical, the female may be distinguished up close by her reddish-brown eye. The eyes of the male are a darker brown or black color. When the bird reaches adulthood, which happens between the ages of 3 and 5 years, this distinction is not immediately apparent.

Habitat/Native Region

The range of the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo encompasses Tasmania, the northern and eastern mainlands, and Tasmania. Around Perth, Western Australia, a small community has grown. The species has also been introduced to New Zealand and Indonesia in addition to New Guinea and the Aru Islands. Near populated areas, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos are common and can be found in a range of wooded situations. The birds stay in the same location all year long.

Behavior

Among the many varieties of parrots, the sulphur-crested cockatoo is a good illustration of a cockatoo’s sociable disposition. Person/owner needs to be willing to put in the necessary time and effort if the owner wants to develop a strong relationship with a bird. Sulphur-crested cockatoos enjoy being handled, but they also require enough alone to grow into independent birds. This demanding bird may become aggressive and destructive if it does not receive the care it needs.

One of the smartest parrots, according to popular opinion. They have the same learning potential as a 1- to 2-year-old human toddler and are capable of learning to speak and do stunts. Young birds may be socialized with and trained the easiest.

Care

Due to their size, sulphur-crested cockatoos need cages that are incredibly enormous. An aviary setting is good, and a larger cage is preferred. Their skin and wings are kept healthy by the downy powder that birds naturally release. Some allergy sufferers may experience issues with this powder.
