Sulawesi Shrimp

sulawesi-shrimp

Size: Up to 2.5 centimetres (1.0 in)

Physical Characteristics

The body of this shrimp resembles that of other dwarf shrimp. They have small white legs, large antennas, and segmented, slender bodies. The colour of the Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp can range from light red to wine-red, and it has white maxillipeds and blue or white spots all over its body.

Temperament

This species is not aggressive, and it appears that it enjoys having other species around it in the aquarium. The pastime of raising miniature shrimp is very new.

Habitat

The Sulawesi region of Indonesia is home to the native Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp. Two ancient lakes contain them as residents. Like other bodies of water in the Sulawesi region, these lakes are distinctive.

Keeping as Pet

Tank Size

You don’t require a sizable tank because they are so little. These are actually ideal for smaller micro tanks. The shrimp are successfully kept by several owners in tanks as little as five gallons!

Water Parameters

You must adhere to these stated guidelines:

77° to 88° F water temperature (temperatures in the middle of this range are ideal)

Range of pH: 7.0 to 8.5 (approximately 8.0 is best for true Sulawesi conditions)

Water hardness: 3–10 dKH

Feeding

Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp are incredibly accommodating. In the wild, algae, biofilm, and decomposing plant materials make up their primary food. Those same foods ought to be a mainstay of the diet in captivity! For this reason, adding elements like rocks and driftwood is crucial. Accept that natural mess because these shrimp are excellent algae feeders and will survive primarily on algae and biofilm that form in the tank.

Tank mates

Let’s be clear: finding compatible tank mates for these shrimp is not simple. Their particular needs are the cause of that. The majority of the time, common community fish species cannot survive a high pH balance. Creatures from the same region will make the ideal tankmates. This shrimp can be kept in big groups. Dwarf shrimp from Sulawesi make excellent aquarium mates as well. Likewise with Sulawesi snails.
