The breed of sheep used to produce the most meat nowadays is the Suffolk. Lambs from Suffolk crossbreeds are perfect for today’s market demands. Their meat is delicious and well-textured, and they have a great lean meat ratio, big eye muscles, and well-muscled legs. A Suffolk sheep should be a perceptive, unhindered, and powerful animal with endurance and superb balance that is known for living a long and active life.
Characteristics and Genetics
The first Suffolks came about as a result of Southdown rams mating with Norfolk Horned ewes. This hybrid produced a creature that was significantly better than either of its parents. Even though the Suffolk breed was acknowledged in 1810, the flock book was not closed until much later.
Temperament
Suffolk sheep don’t create much bother in the field because they are simple to herd. Being intelligent, they quickly figure out where their pen is and begin to follow a schedule. Although they have a temper, they calm down fast and are simple to calm. They make wonderful backyard pets because of their amiable nature and distinctive personalities.
Uses
Suffolk sheep are mostly grown for their meat. However, it is also beneficial for the production of milk and wool.
