Spotted Tree Frog

The Rhacophoridae family of frogs includes Nyctixalus pictus, commonly known as the cinnamon frog, cinnamon tree frog, cinnamon bush frog, painted Indonesian tree frog, white-spotted tree frog, etc. It can be found in areas of the Greater Sunda Islands, the Malay Peninsula, and southernmost Thailand (northern Borneo and northern Sumatra).

Habitat

In several parts of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore, spotted tree frogs can be found. They live in the lowlands of tropical and subtropical rainforests, mostly in low, damp vegetation. Logging and deforestation pose a threat to the Cinnamon Frog’s habitat. The IUCN last evaluated their conservation status in 2004 and determined them to be Near Threatened.

Characteristics

The average length of a female cinnamon frog is 1.5 inches (3.8 cm), whereas the average length of a male is 1.3 inches (3.3 cm). As nocturnal creatures, they are most active at night. The term “Cinnamon” for spotted tree frogs refers to their hue. They typically have white flecks and are light brown, tan, or pale red-orange in colour.

The head has a relatively long snout and is longer than it is broad. lacking the roof of their mouths’ vomit-teeth. Their iris has a brown lower half and a white top half. About two-thirds of the eye’s diameter is the tympanum, which is visible. Skin Rough skin with several noticeable granular tubercles on the back, limbs, and forehead. In contrast to the belly skin, the throat skin is smooth. There are 2–6 whitish tubercles above and below the vent.

Life Cycle

Female spotted tree frogs lay their eggs in water-filled tree pockets since they are essentially arboreal animals. Tadpoles emerge from the eggs and fall into the water below. Their average life span is 10 to 14 years.

Diet when as Pet

Spotted tree frogs eat a variety of flying insects since they are insectivorous.
