Native Region/Habitat
Together with numerous islands in eastern Indonesia and along the coast of Papua New Guinea, Paulsoni are present all across the Solomon Islands. These snakes can be found in a variety of environments, including wetlands, woods, and arid savannas. They also frequent places around homes when there are many rodents.
Behavior:
When frequently handled, they are a docile species. The Solomon Island Ground Boa is usually a calm and friendly snake. Young specimens and wild-caught specimens with little to no manipulation can both be expected to be nibbly.
Care As a pet/In captivity:
Requirement of in captivity
- However, for the majority of male Solomon Island Ground Boas, a 15 to 20 gallon tank or a rubbermaid that measures roughly 24 inches by 12 inches will do. Females need bigger tanks because they are much bigger; a 30 by 18 inch footprint will do. Although most females only need a three-foot enclosure, the larger ones can need a four-foot enclosure.
- As Solomon Island Ground Boas are native to a rather temperate climate, they don’t need a lot of heat. For a hot point of approximately 88–90°F, a warm side of 82–86°F, and a cool side of 79–84°F, a heat pad of the proper size on one side of the enclosure works fine. Ambient lows at 73–75F are acceptable at night.
- Solomon Island Ground Boas seem to survive just fine without 94% humidity, although using a humidifier or daily sprayings, especially in drier places. Ambient humidity can reach 60%, but daily misting’s can raise it to 80–90% several times throughout the day.
- Some animals may attack quickly when presented with prey in tongs, while others might need to have the f/t prey item placed in their cage overnight. Rats and mice can bite your snake, so if you are feeding live rodents, keep an eye on it without being overbearing.
