Silkback Breaded Dragon

Silkback-Dragon

Description:

Scientific name: Pogona sp.

Life span: 10-15 years

A smooth-skinned, scaleless dragon is known as a silkback or silkie bearded dragon. Since they are born without scales, their skin has a much more human-like texture as opposed to the hard, bumpy scales you would be accustomed to.

Even though they lack the distinctive spikes and rough skin of ordinary bearded dragons, they can still preserve the same colors, but the colors appear more exaggerated and unusually striking.

Silkback Dragon

Native Region/Habitat

This creature was born in Italy.

Behavior:

They are calm and at ease around their keepers. They are almost the ideal size for a pet because they are big enough to handle but not too big that they are difficult to house. In addition, they are frequently quite resilient animals that can resist the mistakes and blunders that novice reptile caretakers frequently make.

Care As a pet/In captivity:

Although silkback bearded dragons make excellent pets, they require the most care of any bearded dragon species. That is because their skin is so thin due to the selective breeding procedure that gives them such smooth skin.

 Light Setup

  • You must make sure your bearded dragon has access to both a hot and a chilled area in the terrarium. Still needing to bask, silkies demand temperatures of about 43°C (110°F).
  • A silkie could nonetheless catch fire if they are either too near the lightbulb or remain there for an extended period of time. To prevent these problems:
  • Ensure that their basking location is close enough to the light source to heat them, but not so close that they could accidentally touch it and get burned. Try keeping your dragon’s distance from the light at 20–30 cm (8–12 in).
  • If the light gets too strong, provide them with a cool place to hide. This needs to be on the other side of the terrarium and keep the temperature at least at normal levels. Much better would be to have a cave for hiding in this location.
  • Moreover, you must moisturize them after each bath. Get a specialized reptile moisturizer, or use a light oil or moisturizer that is 100 percent natural and has no chemicals at all.
