A species of millipede known as Trigoniulus corallinus, sometimes known as the rusty millipede or common Asian millipede.
Distribution
It is found throughout the Indo-Malayan region, including India, China, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and a large portion of Indonesia. As an imported species, it is also known to exist in South Asia and the Caribbean, as well as Fiji and Tanzania. In Florida, where it was also introduced, it is now widely distributed over South and Central Florida, with few occurrences in the Northeast and Panhandle as of 2022.
Habitat
These millipedes live in compost, decaying wood and wet places.
Genome
The genome of T. corallinus was sequenced in 2015, marking the first time a millipede’s genome had been done this.
