Behavior:

Rove goats are exceptionally resilient and strong animals. They thrive in the dry climate of the area. They have the ability to seek out areas with sparse and deficient vegetation. Even rearing them in remote locations is a good idea.

Benefits/Uses:

Actually, the Rove goat was developed as a breed of meat goat. However, because goat meat is less popular in France, farmers are starting to produce the Rove goat as a dairy goat breed. Yet, the breed does not produce milk very well. A Rove doe typically produces 500 to 600 liters of milk annually.

Origin/History:

The Rove goat gets its name from the tiny village of Le Rove, which is close to Marseille. The domestication of the Rove breed of goats began in France. The breed was once regarded as endangered, but as of 2003, French farms were home to more over 5,000 registered Roves. As there was a small market for goat meat in France, farmers started using the goat for dairying instead of for meat production.
