Characteristics and Genetics
The Polwarth, which was developed in Australia more than a century ago, is currently demonstrating why it is the best breed for dual-purpose work. The Polwarth is the breed for today’s farming and economic climate. Its ancestors were Saxon Merino rams and Lincoln ewes, and later via selective breeding for both wool type, fertility, and meat output.
