The Polish Lowland Sheepdog, often known as PON, is a well-known watchdog and livestock herder in Poland. It has a stocky physique and a thick, shaggy double coat. Care as a Pet/ In Captivity
A PON owner needs to be committed to spending a lot of time with their dog because of their intransigence, strong energy, and mop-like coat that needs regular care. But for the proper household, the PON will develop into a dedicated, devoted, and adoring friend.
Exercise
The PON, like the other herding dogs, has a lot of energy and needs constructive outlets for it. Exercise is necessary to keep PONs from becoming bored and destructive, both physically and mentally. Because of their high intelligence, puzzle toys, agility games, and nose exercises are excellent aids for controlling the PON’s drive. They are happiest when they exercise daily for at least an hour. Long walks in the outdoors with plenty of time for your dog to sniff are a wonderful way for you both to unwind. It’s worth it to go farther than simply around the block because most dogs are really easier to deal with after nature-filled sniffing walks than after pounding the pavement.
Nutrition and Diet
On a high-quality dog food that has been manufactured or cooked at home under a veterinarian’s supervision, your PON should function effectively. A high performance or working dog meal may be beneficial for PONs used for flock herding and sports. This energetic breed needs to always have access to fresh, clean water.
Grooming
The PON is not a breed for you if you want a low-maintenance grooming routine. To prevent matting, the breed’s distinctive long, thick, shaggy coat needs to be brushed every day. Despite most of the fur’s water resistance, the lengthy coat has a tendency to gather debris like sticks and dirt. Seasonal shedding is to be anticipated because the PON also has a strong undercoat.
Many dog owners at least cut the hair around their dog’s ears and eyes. Great if you like to pet your dog as a way to bond. If not, you might be able to locate a regular groomer who will keep the coat of your PON short. Remember that while frequent clipping will result in less brushing, it also necessitates frequent, paid appointments to the groomer.
