Peruvian Inca Orchid

peruvian inca orchid

In terms of dog breeds, the Peruvian Inca orchid is a breed unto itself. The size of the breed, commonly referred to as the PIO or flower dog, ranges widely, with some puppies standing short and others much taller. It is renowned for its graceful, thin physique and typically (but not always) completely hairless body. The Peruvian Inca orchid possesses both traits that are unique to it as well as traits that are shared by other breeds, particularly whippets and greyhounds.

Care as a Pet/ In Captivity

Despite having a medium energy level, the Peruvian Inca orchid needs enough of daily exercise and upkeep to be at its best. Before leaving them alone together, keep an eye on your PIO when they are around dogs, cats, and young children.

Exercise

The PIO is a terrific apartment dog who enjoys playing inside and prefers a leisurely 20 to 30-minute daily stroll. It also enjoys activities like lure coursing and agility, which are excellent ways to combine physical and mental exercise.

Avoid taking your PIO for a walk in strong, intense sunlight. This dog has no hair; therefore, it cannot stand a lot of sunshine. Due to the fact that this breed benefits most from exercise when the sun is at its weakest, it also goes by the names moon dog and moonflower dog.

Grooming

While regular brushings with a Peruvian Inca orchid won’t be necessary, other measures are required to safeguard and take care of the dog’s exposed skin. This involves taking a bath every so often, applying sunscreen before going outside, and moisturizing frequently indoors. Additionally, it’s a good idea to cut your nails once a month, clean your ears once a week, and brush your teeth at least five days a week. You should also give your Peruvian Inca orchid a semi-regular brushing if it has any hair.

Nutrition and Diet

The nutritional requirements of Peruvian Inca orchids are the same as those of the majority of dogs, and the breed thrives on a high-quality, protein-rich food. Give your PIO as many healthy goodies as you’d want, but keep them in moderation if you detect any weight gain. If you have any concerns or see that your dog is putting on too much weight, consult your veterinarian.
