Description:

The medium-sized peacock goat has black boots and is mostly white in color. While the majority of their backs are covered in darkness. Its hair is thick and is about mid length. The Peacock goat has broad horns and dark spots or stripes that extend from the horn’s base across its eyes and nose. The area around the mouth and the interior of the ears are both black.

Peacock goats are a really beautiful species of animal. They are incredibly resilient and energetic. They can withstand the elements and are particularly at ease in highland pastures. Moreover, they have a friendly and submissive disposition. They don’t need a lot of high-quality food to stay healthy and can thrive on low-quality forages.

Benefits/Uses: 

Peacock goats are mostly raised for their milk. Although it is not one of the top dairy goat breeds, the breed nonetheless yields as much milk as the majority of other mountain goat varieties. It is also fairly effective for producing meat.

Origin/History:

Actually, the breed originates from the Swiss cantons of Graubünden and Upper Tessin. On the precise origin of the Peacock goat, very little is known. Yet, the Prätttigau Goat was the name given to the breed when it was identified in 1887.

Other names for the peacock goat include the Gray-black-white goat, the Gray-black goat, Colomba, Razza Naz, and Pfauenziege in German. Peacock goats have been raised in modest quantities by Swiss goat farmers for many years.

Nonetheless, the breed was not recognized formally until 1992. The Peacock goat herd book was started in 1992. The first Peacock Goat Breeding Organization was created in 1989 in the canton Aargau.
