  • Tank parameters

One of the few saltwater fish species that may be raised in groups is the pajama cardinal. At least three should be kept in each tank.

These fish can be kept in the majority of nano aquariums because they are slow swimmers. A small school should have a tank that is at least 40 gallons (151.4 l) in size to accommodate other tank mates. These fish can be kept alone and need a tank that is at least 20 gallons (75.7 L) in capacity.

Pajama Cardinals are resilient fish that may be kept in typical FOWLR or reef conditions and do not require any extra care. More experienced hobbyists to really understand how they interact with their surroundings naturally may add large colonies of SPS corals. Enough live rock should be present to provide adequate hiding areas.

Hang on the back (HOB), canister, or sump filtration can be used to maintain Pajama Cardinals as long as ammonia and nitrite concentrations remain at zero ppm and nitrate levels remain tolerable (10 ppm). To prevent being pushed around in the aquarium, these fish require low flow zones.

The following water characteristics also require routine adjustments:

  • Temperature: 23.9–27.8 °C/75–82 °F
  • pH: 8.0 – 8.4
  • 1.023 to 1.026 salinity
  • 8.0 dkH Alkalinity

Although these figures are excellent, keep in mind that a stable tank is far superior to a turbulent one.

  • Tank Mates

Although there are many other possibilities, pajama cardinals get along best in their own tanks.

Some of these choices consist of: Clownfish, Tangs, Angelfish, Wrasses, Blennies and Gobies.
