Behavior:

The Orobica goats are a tough and powerful kind of mammal. Comparatively to other goat breeds, their geographic isolation in their native region has promoted more diversification over time. Furthermore, the breed’s hardiness has helped it to successfully adapt to the remote alpine pastures.

Benefits/Uses:

It is a breed of dairy goat. And the major reason it is raised is to produce milk. Nonetheless, because they are medium-sized animals, they are also rather effective at producing meat

Origin/History:

Although the exact origins of these goats are unknown, the most dependable notion has indicated that the Gerola Valley in the Sondrio province is where the Orobica goat breed first appeared. As a result of the region’s extreme isolation from the rest of the world, the breed has evolved more slowly than other goat breeds. The Orobica goats also evolved into a hardy breed, which helped them better acclimatize to the rocky pastures at the top of the mountains that were difficult to access.

The Orobica breed first appeared in print at the turn of the 20th century. The Italian National Association of Sheep Breeders has maintained a genealogical herdbook for this breed, one of the eight native breeds in Italy (Associazione Nazionale della Pastorizia).
