Description
A species of vividly colored sea slug or nudibranch belonging to the Facelinidae family of marine gastropod mollusks is called Hermissenda opalescens. One of the most attractive and colorful species of nudibranchs are opalescent ones. They come in a variety of colors, but they always have bright orange patches on their backs and blue lines running down each side. Their backs have brownish-yellow cerrata (fingerlike projections) with white and gold tips.
Geographical Distribution
From San Diego, California, in the United States, this nudibranch was described. It has been documented from Punta Eugenia, Mexico, to Northern California. Hermissenda crassicornis, which is found north of Alaska, shares its range with it in northern California. Over the past 90 years, these two species have frequently been regarded as a single species.
Behavior
