Description
Size: 3 to 9 Kg
The huge, bluish Ojos Azules is notable for its medium-sized, rounded eye and the arched neck. The cat’s tail is in proportion to its body. The head has a triangular appearance. It features an angular muzzle and a forehead that is somewhat rounded. There is a tiny break in the nose. Short, fine, smooth, silky, and lustrous describe the coat. Although not especially developed, the majority have thick colouring. The tip of the tail, the muzzle, and the paws are the most typical extremities to have white markings. Their tail tip is white. Solid white coats are undesirable because they make it difficult to identify them from regular white cats with blue eyes.
Origin and History
Cats with dark blue eyes were discovered in New Mexico among feral cat populations. The first cat with the characteristic, discovered in 1984, was a tortoiseshell named Cornflower. She was bred to males without the trait, which proved to be dominant, as all her kittens showed it. The breed was founded and named Ojos Azules, Spanish for ‘Blue Eyes’.
Behavior
Activity Level: High
The Ojos Azules’ temperament, behavior, and intelligence are still the subject of a dearth of knowledge and documentation. A few similar characteristics have been observed in the breed, though. Ojos Azules cats tend to be social and affectionate, as well as active and energetic.
As Pet
Grooming
One of the best things about cats is that they usually take care of their own grooming, especially if they have short, silky, and smooth fur like the majority of the Ojos Azules cats do. You can brush your cat once a week to get rid of some of the stray hair if they occasionally shed throughout the year.
Diet and Nutrition
You don’t need to worry about giving your Ojos Azules any form of special food unless your veterinarian advises it. He or she will benefit most from premium cat food that has meat as at least one of the first two or three ingredients, but cat food with meat as the major ingredient is even better. Cats require a diet high in protein to maintain their health.
It truly just depends on you and your cat’s preferences as to whether to feed them wet or dry food. However, kitten food is preferable if you have one because it has smaller kibble. Food made especially for senior cats may also be beneficial.
Regardless of the food you choose to feed your cat, be sure to abide by the correct dosage instructions. Maintaining a healthy weight for your cat can be achieved by feeding them in the right amounts. Usually, the feeding instructions are printed somewhere on the cat food packaging.
Exercise
Ojos Azules cats typically have playful personalities, so getting them to exercise shouldn’t be a problem. If you choose to keep your cat inside, you will need to aid with toy, enrichment, and exercise needs. Your cat can get exercise from scratching posts, cat trees, feather toys, and even remote-controlled chase toys.
Cats can also exercise outside, but there are dangers involved. Letting your cat outside is significantly safer if your home is isolated and far from busy roads. However, you might think about walking your cat on a leash and harness if you are in a city or a suburb or simply want to allow him to go outside while being secure. If you begin doing this as soon as a kitten, it will be simpler to accomplish, but many cats will eventually become receptive to the idea with practice.
