Physical Appearance
Polled horns are the Norwegian Red’s most distinguishing physical feature. The breed also has a spine that is almost wedge-shaped and slightly straight. The udder of female Norwegian cattle is typically positioned appropriately to promote improved milk output.
Characteristics and genetics
Although they are predominantly red or red pied, this breed does not exhibit the exterior homogeneity that is characteristic of a legitimate breed. Bulls may weigh up to 900 kg, but cows can only weigh up to 600 kg. The breed of cattle has an annual milk production capacity of up to 6200 litres. The Norwegian Cattle are known to have increased mastitis resistance, high levels of fertility, and easy calving. Additionally, their milk is known to contain significant amounts of fat and protein.
Uses
The Norwegian red is a breed of cattle that is used for both beef and dairy production. Cattle of this breed may produce large amounts of milk with a high butterfat and protein content. They are a great breed for supplying flavorful, tender, and fat-free meat as well.
They are a hardy breed that has a long lifespan and produces a lot. All of these justifications make it crystal evident why farmers love the Norwegian Red so much, especially in Scandinavia.
Population, Distribution & Habitat
The number of Norwegian Red Cattle in existence today cannot be determined. It is difficult to come to a conclusion because they are a relatively new species with little statistics gathered.
Nevertheless, we are aware that Norwegian Red Cattle are primarily found in Norway and Scandinavia, and they supply the nations in those regions with meat and dairy products. They may be raised intensively or on pastureland while being grass-fed.
