Nebelung Cat

nebelung-cat

Description

Size: 7-15 pounds

The medium-sized Nebelung cat has a long, powerful, and nimble physique. It has dense, medium-length fur that is typically silvery at the tips and is blue-gray in colour. The long, plumed tails of these cats counterbalance their lengthy bodies and enhance their exquisite attractiveness. The cat’s body shouldn’t have any white or other colored patches, although the fur behind its ears can be a different shade of blue than the rest of its coat. Around their necks, male Nebelungs can have a thicker ruff of fur.

The Nebelung’s enormous, widely spaced ears, which are out of proportion to their small skull, give the cat a particularly alert aspect. The eyes are broad-set and big. The breed standard indicates that the greener the eyes, which can range in colour from yellowish-green to emerald green, the better.

A Nebelung cat normally matures completely after two years. Even though they don’t shed as much as some other breeds, these cats are not hypoallergenic.

Origin and History

The first Nebelungs were two cats named Siegfried and Brunhilde from the United States. Their owner, who was awestruck by their beauty, decided to see if she could create a new breed of cat and consulted Dr. Solveig Plfeuger, the geneticist for the American Cat Association.

With the exception of having a longer coat, the Russian Blue breed standard was developed for the Nebelung, which is German for “fog” or “mist” and Russian for “sky” or “heaven.” The GCCF in the UK received Nebelungs for the first time in 2011 during a Russian Blue performance.

Behavior

Activity Level: calm

Social Needs: Nebelungs crave solitude and consistency. They would rather be the sole pet at home and are anxious among boisterous kids.

The nebelung can make a great pet for older people, in large part because of her calm, laid-back disposition. These cats are highly competent of amusing themselves and will play all day long, but they are also cats that are content to sit quietly next to their favourite people or on a free lap.

Marilyn Krieger, a licensed cat behavior consultant in San Francisco, describes nebelungs as peaceful, laid-back, friendly, and intelligent. Despite being viewed as somewhat subdued, they are lively and many enjoy catching toys that are thrown for them.

Diet and Nutrition

Nebelungs need a diet that is heavy in protein, moderate in fats, and low in carbohydrates, just like other cats do. They should consume premium cat food designed for their age, such as kitten, adult, or senior. Fresh water should be available at all times for your cat.

Two meals per day are usually plenty for adult cats, although kittens require more frequent, smaller meals. Don’t let your cat overeat; you can feed them an all-kibble diet, solely wet food, or a combination of the two.

Exercise

The calm and undemanding nature of Nebelung cats is well known, but they also have a lively side. To keep your cat stimulated, active, and entertained, make sure your home is filled with plenty of appropriate toys and other sources of enrichment. You may train your Nebelung to walk on a leash if you start when your cat is still a kitten. This is a wonderful way to give your pet more exercise, ease boredom, and spend quality time with them.

Grooming

The lengthy, double coat of the Nebelung might take up to two years to fully develop. Although they don’t shed a lot, their coat will still need regular weekly grooming to prevent mats and tangles. To avoid harming your cat’s silky fur, use a brush made for long-haired cats. Your Nebelung will gain from routine dental cleanings, veterinarian exams, and vaccines just like any other cat.
