Description
These greens feature oval-shaped leaves with frilled or scalloped margins and a harsh, sour flavor. They can have rough or fibrous long stalks. Mustard greens can have smooth or ruffled leaves and range in colour from bright green to purple.
Varieties
Ragged Edge has long, ruffled leaves, Red Giant has purple-tinted leaves, and Horned has brilliant green frilly leaves.
Uses
Mustard greens that are smaller and more delicate can be consumed raw, but mature, larger leaves must be cooked. Adding chopped salad to mustard greens.
Nutrition
Several health-promoting antioxidants, including beta carotene, which helps preserve your skin and reduce diabetes risk factors, are present in mustard greens. Numerous B vitamins, such as niacin, thiamine, and pyridoxine are also abundant in the greens.
A serving contains significant amounts of Calcium, Potassium, Vitamin A, C and C.
Cultivation
In the cold spring and autumn months, grow mustard greens. Raised beds, containers, and in-ground gardens all work well for growing these delectable greens. In a place with plenty of sunlight and healthy, well-drained soil with 6.5 to 6.8 pH, space plants 12 to 18 inches apart.
