Origin/ Habitat

A domestic fancy pigeon breed from Italy is known as the Modena pigeon. Its name comes from the Italian city of Modena, where it was first bred many years ago. The breed truly evolved over a long period of time through selective breeding. All domesticated pigeon breeds, including this one, are descended from the wild or feral rock pigeon. This breed is often regarded as the best exhibition pigeon in the world. The history of this ancient breed dates back to the early 1300s.

As Pet

In order to exercise and move about, Modena Pigeons need a lot of space. Indoor aviaries should contain a minimum of 2 square feet per bird, and outdoor lofts need much more room. To stop the spread of disease and maintain excellent health, the loft or aviary must be cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis. A balanced diet of pigeon feed must be provided for Modena Pigeons, and if needed, fresh produce should be added.

Always have access to fresh, clean water. To avoid pollution, it is crucial to replace the water regularly. To sustain their biological rhythms, Modena Pigeons need sufficient lighting. Lighting can be kept constant by using a timer. The ideal temperature range for Modena Pigeons is between 10 and 30 °C. As needed, fans or heat lamps can be employed to control the temperature.
