One of two subspecies of the Common or Eastern Mud turtle, Mississippi In the slow-moving waters with muddy bottoms of the Mississippi River, mud turtles can be found. They spend more time on land than the bulk of other Mud or Musk turtles because they aren’t the best swimmers. Although they don’t usually sunbathe, they do become more active following rainstorms.
Mississippi Mud turtles have tiny, frequently brown or black-colored shells. They have brown markings on their yellow plastrons. Mississippi Mud turtles can be recognized by the yellow stripes that run down the sides of their faces and necks. These turtles feed mostly carnivorous animals such as mollusks, worms, insects, and crustaceans.

Housing
Mississippi mud turtles favour damp environments. They are visible in waterways that are shallow, still, or moving slowly and include aquatic vegetation. They avoid rivers in motion. Between Central Texas and New York, as well as the tip of the Florida Peninsula, you can observe them in North America. Feed
Omnivores include Mississippi mud turtles. They eat both animal and plant foods in their diet. They hunt for aquatic insects and vegetation on the bottom of marshes, ponds, or any other habitat they are in. Feeding options for captive animals include earthworms, feeder fish, mussels, and high-quality turtle pellets.
Predators
The hunters and fishermen who disrupt their environment and seize mature animals are their most threatening predators. Their survival is also threatened by traffic fatalities and habitat pesticide pollution. The population of mature Mississippi mud turtles is declining, according to the IUCN, but it is not badly fragmented. These turtles’ eggs and young are also preyed upon by other creatures.
