Characteristics and Genetics

Modern American zebuine small cattle are known as the Miniature Zebu. In 1991, a breed association was created. With the establishment of the International Miniature Zebu Association, a breed registry, in 1991, the Miniature Zebu became recognized as a breed in the United States. Small zebuine cattle were kept at that time in 23 American zoos, in addition to about 50 private owners. The original importers of the parent stock were from Sweden, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil. More than 6200 animals had been recorded by 2016.

Uses

Due to its great heat and humidity tolerance, the Zebu is preferred in tropical areas over European cattle breeds for producing meat. Although Zebu cows don’t generate a lot of milk, it is nevertheless used to manufacture milk, and the majority of it is given to the calves to ensure their survival. The zebu is utilized for draughting as well due to their strength, which enables them to easily transport big loads over great distances.
