Characteristics and Genetics

They aren’t actually miniature, despite going by several various names (micro pigs, miniature pigs, teacup pigs, etc.). The majority are merely naturally smaller potbellied pigs than domestic farm pigs. The latter can weigh hundreds of kilograms.

When they reach adulthood, micro pigs can actually expand to a size that is reasonable. They can weigh 50 kg or more and grow up to be around five years old.

Micro pigs have been employed in a variety of medical studies, including those involving aging, pulmonology, cardiology, experimental surgery, toxicity, and pharmacology. Micro pigs also grow quickly, are simpler to breed, and have greater genomic diversity than other animal models used in toxicological research.
