Melaleuca

Melaleuca plant

Short and long, silky hairs can be found on the tree’s juvenile growth. The flat, leather-like leaves can be egg or lance-shaped and are either green or gray in hue. The leaves are 10-31 mm broad and 55-120 mm long. At the ends of the branches, the flowers develop into spikes that keep growing even after they have finished blooming. The spikes usually have five to eighteen groups of flowers arranged in threes. They range in length from 20 to 50 mm, have 3 mm-long petals, and lose their petals as the bloom ages.

The stamens are either white, cream, or greenish in hue. Additionally, they are arranged around the flower in five bundles. A bundle has five to ten stamens. From the start of spring until the beginning of October, flowers will bloom.

How to Plant a Melaleuca Tree in a Pot

Choose a pot that can hold a shrub or a smaller plant species to start. The melaleuca tree should ideally be grown in gardens or big spaces. If you choose to cultivate this tree in a pot, you must take the necessary steps to help it become well-established.

Melaleuca

  • Choose a location in your garden that receives either direct sunlight or partial shade.
  • Fill the pot with organic, high-quality potting soil.
  • Take the tree out of its pots, then gently shake and pry the roots out.
  • It’s crucial to prevent root rot on your Melaleuca tree. This is why the bottom portion of the foil encircling the tree is pierced or hole-drilled. This will be put on a tiny tray or saucer. Also, you have the choice to take the tray straight to the sink so that you can quickly unwrap it and water it.
  • Let the water in your pot drain through the holes at the bottom.
  • Put the soil back on top of the roots, making sure to position the hole for drainage before doing so. Make sure there is at least one inch of clearance above the ground. When you water the plants, this enables a water reservoir.
  • Make sure to deeply water trees that you cultivate in pots so that the plant has enough water reserves to withstand scorching temperatures. This also aids in settling the soil after you first plant the tree in the pot.
  • You can now mulch the plant with bark, but not right up against the trunk.
  • Use a fertilizer rich in nutrients and organic once a year to lightly feed your Melaleuca plant. once every two to three months during the growing season.
