History and Origin

Folklore is a major component of Marwari history. Horses belonging to the Marwar region of India were mixed with Arabians to create the breed. Those Arabians may have landed on Arabian ships that sank off the coast, according to folklore.

Fortunately, a few passionate breed lovers worked hard to keep these horses alive. One of the first to speak out in favour of these horses was Maharaja Umaid Singhji, and his grandson carried on his work. Francesca Kelly started a Marwari Bloodlines organization in 1995 to support the global preservation of this breed. She brought the first Marwari horse to the United States in 2000, and after that, India exported another 21 horses.

Temperament

Although they may have a fiery and unpredictable disposition, they are exceedingly brave and devoted to their riders.

Diet and Nutrition

Due to its extreme hardiness, the Marwari Horse may thrive even when fed a meagre diet. Due to the rarity of the species, nothing is known about its exact nutritional requirements. Plan to give the horse high-quality hay and to balance its diet using a ration balancer or other dietary addition.

Grooming

The Marwari will benefit from some additional care and grooming because of its very thin skin, especially in the spring and summer when bugs are more common. These horses can be kept more comfortable by offering fly protection and promptly treating fly bites.

The majority of Marwari horse owners let the manes develop naturally. Regular grooming and detangling are beneficial for both manes and tails. If the Marwari horse has regular care and healthy diet, its short coat will naturally shine.
