Characteristics and Genetics

The Mangalica breed of domestic pig originated in Hungary. In the UK and the US, it’s also occasionally spelled Mangalitsa or Mangalitza.

Midway through the nineteenth century, it was developed. The breed was really created through a hybrid between the Serbian sumadija breed and the Hungarian breeds Szalonta and Bakony, as well as European wild boar.

A small- to medium-sized breed of domestic pig, the mangalica. The Mangalica pig comes in three different breeds: Red, Swallow-bellied, and Blonde.

Although the colors of these varieties vary, they all exhibit the same temperament. The Blonde Mangalica and the now-extinct Black Mangalica were originally crossed to create the Swallow-bellied variety.
