Lohmann Brown Chicken

lohmann-brown-chickens

A type of chicken raised exclusively for egg-laying productivity is the Lohmann Brown. It is a crossbreed that was carefully created from Rhode Island and White Rock breed lineages. They begin to lay about 19 weeks and can produce up to 320 eggs until they are 72 weeks old (one year production).

Description

The horizontally oriented bodies of Lohmann Brown have an underdeveloped chest and a straight, wide back and loin. And they have enormous, rounded stomachs. The tail and horizon almost make a 90-degree angle. The muscles are underdeveloped and the legs are short. The long neck, unusual comb, and light brown tail feathers with a reddish tinge are all characteristics of the Lohmann Brown chicken. The hens of this breed have medium-sized, round ears that are medium in size and have a brilliant red crest. As they age, the Lohmann Browns lose more and more of their grace. They are just plain brown birds that resemble Hyline Brown hens in appearance. They have rich, cream-hued plumage that is orange-brown in tone. There are four versions of this breed: Lohmann Brown – Classic, Lite, Plus, and Extra.

  • Housing

Because of their modest proportions, Lohmann Brown chickens are suitable for compact spaces. The birds are housed in cages on the ground or in open enclosures. For these enclosures, a stocking density of 6 to 8 birds per square meter is ideal. With twenty chickens, the minimum size of your coop is roughly ten square meters. Your Lohmann Brown hen is kept inside while it is laying eggs. The windows must be covered with a metal mesh, and the room must be warm and well-ventilated. On the floor of your chicken coop, scatter some sawdust or straw. Always keep an eye on the sawdust or straw to make sure it’s tidy and dry.

A heating and lighting system should be installed in your hen coop to keep the interior at a constant 18 to 22 degrees Celsius. When the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, Lohmann Brown chickens will not lay. In the fall or winter, the lights should be positioned two meters off the ground and offer 13 to 14 hours of daylight.

  • Feeding

The age of your Lohmann Brown chicken will determine the best diet for it. In general, layers are fed twice or three times a day, in addition to receiving 20 to 30g of various supplemental foods all day long. Overeating puts your bird at danger for overgrowing, which impairs movement and lowers egg production.

Whole grains should not be included in the diet of adult Lohmann Brown chickens since they are poorly digested. For the birds, the best options are refined barley, oats, sprouted wheat, sunflower seeds, millet, flax seeds, and corn. You can also opt for pre-made compound feeds that are administered in doses of 110–120g daily. Feed the chickens dry meals at night and wet mash in the afternoon and morning.

Include veggies and chopped root crops in addition to grains to give your birds nutrition. Lohmann Brown hens raised outside have access to these on their own. If you have young chicks, feed them boiled yolk, boiling chopped nettle, and corn grits every two hours, even at night. Chicks under a week old are typically fed seven times each day. The chicks are fed adult meals when they are three months old. Install drinkers in various locations and make sure they are regularly refilled to guarantee your Lohmann Brown birds have access to water all the time.

  • Temperament

These hens may easily be grown with other animals and are typically amiable. They have two colors of brown rather than just one (darker from the neck and gradually becomes lighter towards the tail). Thankfully, Lohmann Brown chicks are not hostile despite being energetic. They seldom ever engage in conflict and they do not divide or designate their lands. The birds are ideal for houses with children and people looking for pets because they can be hand-tamed with ease. Because you won’t have to deal with ongoing battles that hurt some birds, their non-territorial natures also make them perfect for mixed flocks that are allowed to travel freely. Despite their friendly dispositions, experts advise keeping Lohmann Brown birds apart from other breeds due to their low weights, which make them easy prey for larger birds.
