Black on the sides with a white line down the back.

Physical appearance

The Lineback has a very attractive coat that, as the name implies, is often black on the sides with a white line running down the back and along the belly. Additionally, they might be roan or white with black or red spots on their sides. The Gloucester line of backs also come with a solid black head, sides, and legs, a white belly, white garters around the tips of the legs, and the recognizable white stripe running the length of the back from head to tail.

Characteristics and Genetics

The Lineback, a rare breed that originated in America, served as a dual-purpose animal for its owner in the 18th and 19th centuries, providing both milk and meat. The immigration of European and British breeds like Welsh, Witrick, and Gloucester cattle increased during this period. It is conceivable that cattle exported to the USA may have contributed to the development of this breed.

Uses

Farmers eventually started to specialize the Lineback for dairy production, despite the fact that it was originally bred as a dual-purpose cow (milk and meat). Thus, even if they are still adaptable, the Lineback has mostly evolved into a dairy cow over time because they are efficient milkers who can produce up to 2 gallons of milk each day on average. Additionally, the Lineback is frequently kept as a “productive pet.”
