Lilac-Crowned Amazon

Lilac-Crowned Amazon

Description

Life span: up to 60 years

The majority of the adult lilac-crowned amazon’s plumage is green, with golden underparts and black borders. A maroon forehead contrasts with a faint blue-lilac tone on the crown, nape, and neck. Even though they lack the edging that is present on the remainder of the bird’s plumage, the cheeks and ear coverts are coloured a greenish yellow.

Another name for this medium-sized parrot is the Finsch’s Amazon. It lacks the size and glamour of the Amazon superstars, such as the double yellow-headed and yellow-naped Amazons, but it makes up for it in friendliness.

Habitat/Native Region

The lilac-crowned Amazon parrot resides on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It favours moist oak or pine woodlands up to an altitude of about 6,000 feet. Due to habitat loss and illegal collection for the pet trade, wild populations are declining.

Behavior

Amazon parrots with lilac crowns form tight bonds with their owners and need a lot of constant social interaction to thrive. Because it is more introverted than other Amazons, the lilac-crowned Amazon is frequently quieter. It is a clever creature that can pick up spoken language. It may also shout out in a loud voice to warn others of danger or when it sees a stranger coming.

Like many other parrot species, lilac-crowned Amazons may go through a hormonal bluffing or biting phase when they reach sexual maturity. Because this brief period might be stressful for caregivers, it is advised that this bird be kept by avian owners with experience.

Care

Lilac-crowned Amazon parrots are energetic, naturally curious birds. Like all parrots, but especially Amazon parrots, these birds need a lot of mental stimulation to remain happy and healthy. The cage for the lilac-crowned Amazons needs to be roomy. Amazons have a tendency to get sluggish, put on weight, and even become obese if not given appropriate exercise and space. The addition of a cage-top playpen and a separate playpen to the housing is fantastic.

Every Amazon parrot appreciates social connection, and they all need it in enough quantity to maintain their wellbeing. Lilac-crowned Amazons live in small flocks in the wild. Person and his family must transform into that captive flock. A neglected parrot grows lonely, adopts bad habits, and exhibits depressed symptoms.
