Leucistic Axolotl

Description

The albino-looking leucistic axolotl is a salamander. Their heads are covered in white or transparent gills that resemble hair.

Despite their apparent differences in appearance, they are both members of the same species of axolotl. In all of Mexico’s freshwater lakes and ponds, leucistic axolotls coexist with their more normal relatives. The majority of their diet is made up of small fish, worms, and insects.

They first require an aquarium with lots of hiding spots and good filtration. They also require live food, such as worms or tiny fish. They are further sensitive to changes in water quality. As a result, it’s critical to carefully inspect their tank and offer a steady stream of clean water.

Temperament

They live alone and are alone for the majority of the day.

Tank

Adult axolotls need aquariums that hold at least 20 gallons of water, though a bigger tank could be preferable. Every day or two, the tank should be cleaned out of solid waste using a gravel hoover. To keep the Axolotls healthy and in optimum water conditions, there must be enough filtration for the number of animals housed in the tank.

Heating (Temperature & Humidity)

These amphibians should not be housed in a tank with a heater unless it is absolutely required to maintain safe temperatures because they are cool-blooded aquatic creatures. Although they can survive in temperatures as high as 70°F, they prefer water that is between 60 and 65°F. Since axolotls are entirely aquatic, tank humidity is not an issue.

Feeding

Your Leukaemia Since axolotls are entirely carnivorous creatures, they will not need plant materials. They can be fed items like night crawlers, earthworms, and blackworms but prefer live food. Additionally, as a treat, you can give them thawed frozen food or meaty items like cooked prawns, bloodworms, or even feeder insects. Commercial foods made specifically for salamanders or axolotls should be offered as well.

Axolotls must be fed at least once a day. Because of their weak vision, it is advisable to place food directly in front of them. Feeding forceps or a similar tool that won’t unintentionally hurt the axolotl can be used for this.
