Lemur

lemur

Description

Scientific Name: Lemuroidea

Bright, rounded eyes and silky fur with a range of colors are features of lemurs. Lemurs typically come in shades of white, grey, black, brown, and red-brown. Males and females of certain species have different colors. Male blue-eyed black lemurs, for instance, are completely black, whereas females are reddish brown. Lemur heads and necks are dark grey, and their backs range from grey to pinkish brown. Their bellies are white. They have white faces with black noses and dark, trapezoidal eye patches.

Habitat

Madagascar is the only place where lemurs are native. From there, a few species travelled to surrounding smaller islands, such the Comoros. Madagascar was a component of the former southern continent of Gondwana, which also included Africa and India.

Behavior

Lemurs are calm, social creatures who may live in groups of ten or more. Although food varies between species, most of their time is spent in trees where they eat fruit, leaves, buds, insects, small birds, and bird eggs.

Food

Lemurs are calm, social creatures who may live in groups of ten or more. Although food varies between species, most of their time is spent in trees where they eat fruit, leaves, buds, insects, small birds, and bird eggs.

Caging

A cage at least 8 x 8 x 8 square feet in size is required for your pet. This should be elevated above the ground and feature a den that needs to be heated during the winter. Lemurs detest loud noises, so make sure it’s in a peaceful environment. You’ll also need to lemur-proof the area. For these individual, even ceiling fans can be fatal!

Veterinary Care

Lemurs require routine veterinary care, including immunizations, examinations, and parasite management, much like other pets do. Here, finding a veterinarian with lemur experience is vitally essential!

Training

Although it will take a long time, training is essential. It should be noted that lemurs occasionally disobey their human masters. In fact, they can become rather hostile, particularly as they mature sexually.
