Komondor

komondor

Although the Komondor’s appearance could give the impression that they were created to mop floors, in its native Hungary, this breed of dog has a proud history as a flock-guarding canine. They still have a strong protective instinct and will risk their lives to protect their family and property.

Care as a Pet/ In Captivity

This dog obviously has duties to do. To gain the respect of your Komondor, you must be a self-assured leader. You need not apply if you are a meek or novice dog owner. To ensure that your Komondor learns how to act among humans and other animals, you must socialize them well from an early age by introducing them to a wide variety of settings, people, and other animals. You’ll also need to make an effort to introduce your Komondor to guests who are allowed in your house. Once a Komondor welcomes a newbie, they treat them as one of their flock and another individual to watch over for the rest of their lives.

Behavior

When it comes to his family, including kids and other pets, the Komondor is often kind and affectionate. Always keep an eye on kids so that Komondorok (the plural of the breed name) doesn’t misinterpret their yelling and chasing, and take precautions to shield “his” kids from their peers. Once introduced, he will accept strangers, but prior to that, he will withhold judgment regarding their reliability. When it comes to dogs he doesn’t know, he can be hostile.

Food

The amount of food your adult dog consumes is influenced by their size, age, build, metabolism, and degree of activity. Like people, each dog is unique, thus they don’t all require the same amount of food. A very active dog will require more than a couch potato dog, which should almost go without saying. The kind of dog food you buy also matters; the better the food, the more effectively it will nourish your dog and the less frequently you will need to shake it into its bowl.
