Description
The hog plum, or yellow mombin, is a native of the tropical Americas and belongs to the Anacardiaceae family of ornamental trees. Before flowering, the plant normally loses the majority of its complex leaves. The drupe fruits have a leathery yellow-green skin and a length of around 4 cm. Each fruit’s huge stone has several spines and is challenging to extract from the pulp.
Uses
The fruit pulp is used to make concentrate, jellies, juice, and sherbets or to make fresh fruit consumption.
Cultivation
Hog plum enjoys the sunshine. As a fruit tree, it need sufficient sunlight for photosynthesis in order to grow and give off enough nutrients to produce fruit. It needs to be placed where it can get at least 6 hours of sunlight each day, ideally no less than 8 hours.
