Physical Characteristics
These fish have bronze-colored backs, greenish flanks, and scales that look metallic gold. Certain of them are entirely golden. In addition to having an elongated body and bright green eyes, Golden killifish are energetic.
Temperament
The Golden Wonder Killifish often behaves in a calm, loosely organized shoaling or schooling fashion. Unless it feels threatened, you cannot observe any aggregation behavior from them.
They might try to jump out of the tank if they feel terrified, which would result in them killing themselves. You might put a weighted lid on their tank as a result. Also, you can see them swimming at the top of the tank as they hunt for prey. Insects that accidentally fall onto the water instantly seize them, displaying their predatory tendencies.
Habitat
The species is widely dispersed in Peninsular India and Sri Lanka. The Striped Panchax Killifish prefers slow-moving rivers, lakes, wetlands, and streams in their natural habitat. They rarely travel into muddy marshes, paddy fields, or even marginally brackish waterways.
Keeping as Pet
- Tank Size
The Golden Wonder Killifish prefers aquariums that are at least 20 gallons in size. You should think about getting a tank with more conditions so that these Killifish species have more room to roam as they always live on the upper levels of the tank. If you don’t intend to, you do not need to have deeper tanks for them.
As you have other Golden Wonder Killifish tank mates to house, we advise that you take into account a 30-gallon tank. A large tank also provides your fish more freedom to roam around and is better for their happiness.
- Water Conditions
The fish like temperatures between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit as their preferred environment. The ideal pH range for water acidity is 6.0 to 7.5, with a hardness range of 5 to 20 dGH.
By using top-notch filtering methods and changing the water in the fish tank twice a week, you can maintain the water in the new conditions. As you alter the filtration process, make sure the tank allows for sluggish water circulation.
- Feeding
Being carnivores, fish must consume a range of freeze-dried, frozen meaty foods, much like the insects that make up their natural diets and the insect larvae that fish typically ingest from the water’s surface. Mosquito larvae and bloodworms are among the most popular foods.
They also enjoy daphnia and brine shrimp with added vitamins. You must also feed the fish live food in order to keep their color vibrant, which is important when you introduce a pair of fish into the tank for breeding.
Some fish species accept high-quality pellets and flakes as food without being picky eaters. While hunting for live food, make sure the vendor has a solid reputation before making a purchase.
- Tank mates
The Golden Wonder Killifish’s ideal tank mates are: German Blue Ram, Tetra Species, Banjo, Catfish, Ramshorn Snail, Corydoras Catfish, Otocinclus Catfish and Vampire Shrimp.
They are perfectly raised in the enormous tank in little groups so they can occupy the water’s surface.
