Golden Tail Strophurus Gecko

Golden tail-Strophurus Gecko

Description:

Scientific name: Strophurus taenicauda

Life span: 7-10 years

The golden spiny-tailed gecko, also known as the golden-tailed gecko or Strophurus taenicauda, is a species of lizard belonging to the Diplodactylidae family. The form of the golden-tailed gecko’s eyes makes it simple to identify. The golden-tailed gecko’s eye is perfectly spherical, bright red, and marble-colored, with an enormous tear along the center.

Native Region/Habitat

Eastern Australia is home to only one species of it. Australia’s New South Wales and Queensland are home to S. taenicauda. Forests and shrubland are S. taenicauda’s favoured habitats.

Behavior:

The capacity to spray a harmless, foul-smelling fluid from their tails, which can turn into a highly combustible substance when combined with ammonia, is the only defense mechanism shared by all members of this genus.

Care As a pet/In captivity:

Enclosure: Strophurus taenicauda, the species known as the golden-tailed gecko, is not a large lizard, with an average snout-vent length of just around 70mm. As a result, 1-3 individuals can be safely housed in an enclosure with dimensions of about 450x450x450mm.

Lighting: We provide a heat source and UVB to each of our Strophurus breeders. We advise a range of temperatures between 70° and 85° F. For our adult Strophurus, we use Arcadia 12-14% bulbs, while our youngsters use 6% bulbs (on smaller tanks).

Diet: Strophurus do not eat fruit powder blends; instead, they feed on live insects. Each person receives 2-4 food items per feeding. Ensure that the meal is the right size for your gecko. There is a feeding every other day. Be aware that a gecko may regurgitate food if it consumes too much of it.
