Golden-Mantled Rosella

Golden-Mantled Rosella

Description

Life span: Up to 30 years

The most vibrant and well-known parrot in the rosella family is the golden-mantled rosella, often referred to as the Eastern rosella and the white-cheeked rosella. The golden-mantle rosella parrot is a favourite among enthusiasts due to its beautiful look and kind disposition. Due to the variety of vivid hues on its feathers, it can be the most attractive rosella. It features a dark green back, a lighter green head and breast, white cheeks, a brilliant yellow belly, cobalt shoulders, and flight and tail feathers. Its feet are light gray, and its beak is white.

Habitat/Native Region

Southeast Australia and Tasmania are the natural habitats of the golden-mantled rosella. Its natural food consists mostly of native grass seeds, herbs, fruits, and blossoming buds. It dwells in open forests, woodlands, gardens, and parks.

Behavior

The peaceful, laid-back golden-mantled rosella is a wonderful family companion. Although it is not particularly affectionate and will not put up with much touching, it will gladly ride on the shoulder. A very tame rosella is a great option for a young person who is old enough to behave properly around any bird. All birds have the potential to bite, so take extra care around a child’s fragile fingers. If owners take the time to interact with them, rosellas make wonderful aviary birds and will retain their pet characteristics in flight.

Care

For rosellas to flourish, they need both room and a balanced diet. It’s best to use the biggest cage owner can manage, but make sure the bars are correctly spaced for a bird with this head size. Because they can coexist happily in a big enough space, rosellas thrive in aviaries. Provide a small dish or pan of water for rosellas to bathe in since they enjoy taking them.
